Uzone.id – Have you ever dreamed of having an adventure in an RV – or even living in it? While it used to be like a pipe dream, Burstner is on its way to making yours come true.
Over the recent years, Burstner has been in the process of trying to incorporate the idea of a “home from home feel” in its wide range of products in different forms. Some products achieve this goal – rely on modularity – while others utilize it as a transformable form, be it pop-up or slide-out.
As a part of Hymer AG Group since 1998, Burstner has developed the Talis, a trailer concept that is being dubbed as “caravan of the future.” The Talis is claimed to be light, easily pulled around, collapsible, spacious, and here’s the catch: autonomous.
Burstner wanted to design a trailer that was as light and aerodynamic as possible, so it could be towed by an electric car without using too much energy. They say it’s shaped like a fish to help with this.
“Electric towing vehicles, low fuel consumption, and light construction are becoming increasingly important. Almost any car can tow the Talis, including electric cars,” claimed the Chairman of Burstner’s management board, Jens Kromer.
There is currently a full-size prototype with all the features for demonstration at the 2024 Dusseldorf Caravan Show to test the market with the view of making it into series production.
What’s interesting about Talis’ concept is the trailer is designed to expand significantly, much bigger than a regular travel trailer when it’s set up, hence the moniker “Air-Xtension” and “EasyFlex” appeared. Although Burstner hasn’t given the exact details, it might be small enough to fit on a single-axle chassis, which goes perfectly with their slogan “Travel Small, Live Large.”
Despite its moniker, the two exciting things about it are the special features that turn it into a real family RV when you’re camping. The Air-Xtension is a big, inflatable room at the back. It’s insulated and has a modern look. You can move the main bed outside without worrying about the weather.
Some versions of the car can fit two people while driving, but it’s going to be very cramped and you’ll have to lie diagonally on the back seat. When you’re at the campsite, the bed can unfold to be much bigger. It’s big enough for two people to sleep comfortably side by side with dimensions of 200 x 170 cm (79 x 67 inches).
Under the main bed, you’ll find what Burstner called EasyFlex spaces. These are like little, modular rooms that can be used for different things – one is a kids’ room that can turn into a private garage. You just fold up the mattress and the wooden slats underneath to create a wall.
The kids’ room looks like a nice place for two kids. It’s big enough for them to sleep flat, has some drawers, and instead of windows, it has cool lights. It also has a curtain to make it private. If you need to, you can fold the curtain up and turn it into a fun play area.
It is important to mention, that despite the versatility of the expandable bed and the bunk-like design, there is still enough space to provide the Talis with a dining area for four people – two benches and a folding table.
All furniture here including the benches and the table below, the storage boxes above, even the lighting fixture – all of it can be easily moved outside when needed thereby increasing the available area outside.
There are lots of storage options, but they might not be easy to see at first. You can find overhead boxes, extra storage in the kitchen and under the dinette benches, and a special shelf at the back that you can only access from outside.
Now, move on to the essential areas: the kitchen and bathroom. These two are located at the entrance with the refrigerator in between. They’re good examples of the kind of modular design Burstner is thinking about for future travel trailers. The kitchen has a two-burner electric induction hob that can be removed – we can also use it outside. While in the bathroom, Talis provides hidden storage spaces for the sink and toilet.
The finishes include wooden panels, which help to absorb sound and make the space feel more like home. The fabrics are durable with imitation tiles. Overall, the inside is clean and stylish, but also warm and inviting.
The big question is whether people will like this new design.
